Telstra Health has shared the latest developments in Communicare and plans for its continued modernisation at the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT) Digital Health & Communicare Forum.
The digital health landscape for Aboriginal and Community Controlled Health organisations (ACCHOs) continues to evolve, bringing both new opportunities and challenges for services delivering care across their communities.
Growing demand for care and workforce pressures sit alongside changing government and compliance requirements, while greater information sharing across the health system is creating new opportunities to strengthen continuity of care.
These themes were central to discussions at the AMSANT forum, where we heard directly from customers about their experiences and priorities for Communicare.

Our ongoing investment is focused on three key areas:
Delivering practical enhancements that support everyday clinical and administrative work
Keeping Communicare aligned with new legislative and regulatory requirements
Improving stability, security and performance
Over the past year, we’ve delivered support for Assignment of Benefit requirements, MyMedicare functionality and a range of enhancements informed by customer feedback.
We’ve also continued monthly central data updates to support public health programs, reporting and clinical content, including updates enabling Communicare customers to respond to changing public health requirements.
Further enhancements are planned across bulk billing incentives, MyMedicare registration functionality and the Communicare Address Book, with a continued focus on supporting day-to-day workflows while responding to changing requirements.
Alongside these practical improvements, we’re investing in the foundations that will support Communicare in an increasingly connected health system.
This includes work on cloud hosting options and SMART on FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) capabilities, supporting greater interoperability and the exchange of health information across different systems and care settings.
This work sits alongside the ongoing development of Corus™, Telstra Health’s care intelligence ecosystem and longer-term vision for care, connected.
Communicare will continue to see investment in compliance, stability and enhancements as this broader work progresses. Any future migration pathway will be developed in partnership with customers and aligned with the needs of their services.
The opportunity to hear directly from the organisations using Communicare was an important part of the AMSANT forum, providing valuable insight into the challenges services are navigating and the capabilities that matter most to their teams.
That input, alongside our ongoing engagement with customers and peak bodies such as AMSANT, continues to shape priorities for Communicare and its future development.
