Activating PRODA Devices

Register and activate your PRODA devices and link your organisation.

Activating a B2B device is a multi-step process:
  1. Register your devices with PRODA. For more information, see Registering your B2B device.
  2. Provide the Device Activation Code and other information that you receive from Services Australia to Telstra Health Support who will activate your device. For more information, see Activating your device.
    Tip:
    Your health service will need a PRODA device for online claiming, including MyMedicare bulk bill incentives, and a second PRODA device to see your patients' MyMedicare status.
  3. For Medicare and AIR, link your organisation's Minor IDs. For more information, see Managing Your Minor IDs.
  4. For MyMedicare, link your organisation to the HPMS. For more information, see Linking your organisation to HPMS.

Registering your B2B device

Tip:
To update your organisation to support viewing MyMedicare status details, register a new MyMedicare B2B device.
To register a B2B device with PRODA:
  1. Log into PRODA (My Organisations | PRODA (humanservices.gov.au) and select Organisations at the top right of the window.
  2. From Organisations, select the name of the organisation to which you want to register the new B2B device. Ensure that the selected organisation has a valid status, and that the ABN is correct.
  3. On the Manage my organisation > B2B Devices tab, click Register New B2B Device.
  4. Enter a unique device name.
    The device name should be descriptive enough that you or another user can identify what the device is used for and what service transactions it’s performing. The device name must be unique to your organisation. The name may contain any of the following characters:
    • Alphabetic
    • Numeric
    • Underscores
    • Hyphens
    • Full stops
    The name may not contain any spaces.

    For a new device for viewing MyMedicare statuses, use the previously registered Claims device name and append MyMedicare. For example, MyHealthServiceMyMedicare.

  5. In the Description field, add any other information that will help you identify the device.
  6. Click Register Device.
Registration is completed. You will receive a Device Activation Code, which is valid for up to 7 days.
Tip:
As soon as you are presented with the code, record it in a safe location, as it is not stored.

Activating your device

Note:
So that Telstra Health Support can activate your device, create a ticket as promptly as possible and include: Ensure you also share these details for a new PRODA device for viewing MyMedicare statuses. Telstra Health Support will update your PRODA Conformance ID for the MyMedicare status device.

Telstra Health Support records the device ID for your organisation in Medicare Services Australia system parameters. You can also have a separate PRODA device ID for your encounter place.

Note:
Once your device is activated, it will remain valid for 6 months. You will need to renew it from PRODA at least every 6 months to avoid interruption to Communicare’s access to connected services.

Linking your organisation to HPMS

For MyMedicare, to send transmissions to or receive them from the MyMedicare program, you must link your organisation to the Health Professional Management Services (HPMS) in PRODA:

  1. Log into PRODA (My Organisations | PRODA (humanservices.gov.au) and select Organisations at the top right of the window.
  2. From Organisations, select your organisation.
  3. Select Service Provider > Add Service Provider.
  4. Select Health Professional Management Services (HPMS) > Add Service Provider.
  5. Read and confirm the Linking Terms and Conditions and click Accept.
  6. Identify your organisation. From the Identifier Type list, select ABN.

    Your ABN should be added automatically.

  7. Your organisation is identified and a relationship with HPMS established. Click Next.

Your organisation is now linked to the HPMS and you can send transmissions to or receive them from MyMedicare.
