Certificate Types

Certificates can be one of the following types:
  • NASH Org Certificate
    • NASH PKI Certificate for Healthcare Provider Organisation.
    • This certificate is used to authenticate a user when accessing the My Health Record.
    • This certificate contains an HPI-O to identify the organisation that the certificate was issued to.
  • HI Org Certificate
    • Services Australia PKI Site Certificate for Healthcare Identifiers (HI) Service access.
    • This certificate is used to authenticate a user when accessing the HI Service. For example, to claim Medicare benefits online, use patient verification for Medicare card validity, access healthcare identifiers and send immunisations to the AIR database.

Certificates are validated when you save any changes to ensure that the password is the correct password for the certificate. If the certificate contains an HPI-O, it is stored alongside the certificate in Communicare.

PKI Certificates and NASH Certificates

The PKI Certificate for Medicare and NASH Certificates for your organisation are linked.

The Medicare Certificate has an RA number. The NASH Certificate has an HPO-I number. If the RA number and the HPI-O number are not linked, your site will have errors when attempting to validate patient IHI numbers and provider HPI-I numbers.

If your site changes its organisation details, the link between the NASH certificate and the Medicare certificate can break. Medicare decides whether you need new certificates.

Tip: If your health service moves address, check with Medicare that your certificates are still valid.

If your organisation is experiencing problems with certificates, contacteBusiness Service Centre (Medicare).
